My background

My wife and I have lived in Weston for 10 years. Our daughter is in sixth grade. Like her, I attended public schools growing up. I ultimately earned graduate degrees in law and business, and then went into a career in marketing, sales and strategic planning. I now teach at Boston College. For the past two years I've been a member of the Weston PTO Board, and last fall I was elected a parent representative on the Middle School Council.

Why I'm running

I believe that every student in the Weston Public Schools can attain higher levels of academic achievement and social, emotional and mental well-being. The school committee plays a fundamental role in fostering the environment in which those higher levels can be attained. Leveraging my experience in business and education, I want to bring a broader range of management best practices to the committee's governance of our schools.

My first priority: Academic rigor

  • Optimize students’ time on core academic subjects
  • Implement goals with metrics that demonstrate the impact of the district's actions on academic performance
  • Close the pandemic-induced gaps in student knowledge reflected in lower MCAS scores
  • Evaluate the value of offering tutoring for students who need it
  • Engage in aspirational benchmarking, gaining insights from the best schools in the U.S.
  • Re-implement the “Why Not Weston?” survey
  • Prioritize improvements to students' mental health through social and emotional learning practices and positive behavior support plans

My second priority: Long-term planning

  • Confirm comparisons of per-pupil expenditures between Weston and neighboring districts, and identify the budget elements at wide variance and understand why
  • Develop a multi-year budget that reflects a smaller student body while still providing a quality education—and that aligns our budget more with neighboring districts
  • In the district’s annual goals, establish goals related to finance and operations
  • Build town residents' confidence in district's financial prudence by reviewing budgets with them directly

My third priority: A stronger voice for parents, teachers and town residents

  • Strengthen communication practices between schools, parents and town residents
  • Systematically obtain feedback from parents and teachers to confirm what’s going well and identify opportunities for improvement and to better inform the committee's decision making
  • Focus on teacher well-being to reduce risk of teacher burnout
  • Articulate the characteristics of the "ideal parent experience” so we have common expectations of how the schools and parents should interact
  • Provide a broader range of opportunities for town residents to participate in student education
